PhilosophyTEAMWORK and POSITIVITY will be emphasized during the 2023 MS Track and Field season. Individual achievements, while worthy of celebration, are only part of the equation. The development of the TEAM and contribution to the greater good by each student-athlete will be the driving force behind our season. This will include all aspects of TEAM, not just the physical performance of each individual. We will strive to make this an enjoyable experience and hopefully encourage lifelong habits of sportsmanship, striving for excellence, and a true understanding of what it means to be a TEAM. Above all, we will work together to accomplish these goals while having fun together!
The tryout process for MS track and field will be used to evaluate each athlete's abilities and performance in a variety of events. During the three-day evaluation process, student-athletes will be expected to participate in warm-ups and basic physical exercises in addition to various track and field trials. They must attend all three evaluation dates to be considered for the team. A positive, team-centered attitude will be the evaluation process and play a role in placement. While we’d love to include all eager athletes, it is important that all athletes know that there are a limited number of slots available for the team and coaches intend to place students based on work ethic, attitude, and athleticism.
If you're interested in playing a college sport, at the 8th grade level is the perfect time to start having those discussions with your parents and discussing what division you'd like to play for? There is a lot of research that you can do to find out exactly what is needed and when if you're looking to be a collegiate athlete.
One common myth is that you need to go to a big school to be recognized. There are many things that college recruiters look at. Listed below are a few of the things they are looking for:
-Leadership/Interviews with teachers/Coaches. An athlete that can help build a sustainable winning culture. A student athlete that can be a great classmate.
-Character Development. More and more they aren't just looking for someone who can put up points, but someone who's a good person and well rounded.
-Multi Sport athlete- building of alternative skill sets, often more athletic avoids injury and burn out.
